How the season works
Your points are yours. You earn them at every event you play in and they follow you all season no matter who you roster with.
You and your teammates earn the same placement points for your team’s finish. So if you play every event with the same partner, you finish the season level on points, and you are named as team co-winners together. Every player on your roster.
That is by design. Chase it solo across four different rosters or lock in with your team all year. Either way, you are racing for the same title.
How you enter
- Be an AKA member. If you’re not already. Sign up. It’s free and takes 2 minutes at kubbamerica.org
- Register your intention. Complete your Season One registration form above and show your intention to become the first ever AKA Open Series Season winner.
- Play in at least two events. That is your floor. Your two best placements will be scored, plus 5 points for every other event you compete in.
- Make plans now. Every event counts so don’t miss any chance to get maximum points

Your overall score will combine your TOP 2 FINISHES, plus 5 extra participation points for every other event you compete in. There is a 60 point maximum. Can you get max points?
These regions represent each hosting championship’s hosting territory. Players from anywhere are welcome to compete in every event.

What is the Open Championship Series?
Kubb in America grew through people. Players started tournaments in their backyards and their city parks, and some of those tournaments became institutions.
The American Kubb Association is organizing the sport of kubb for the passionate community that has built it into what it is today. The Open Championship Series connects those championships into a coordinated national series, and Season One is the competition that ties them together.
Four championships, one season, one champion. The AKA does not run these events and is not changing how any of them work. Each host organization has full authority over its own championship, exactly as it always has. What the series adds is the through-line: a points race that starts at the East Coast Kubb Championship in October and ends at Natty’s in July.
Season One is the first chapter. As the series grows, more sanctioned events will join at their own competitive tiers. This is the beginning of something meant to last twenty years and beyond.
Do I have to register?
Yes. Registration is how you enter the standings. It takes two minutes at kubbamerica.org and it is free.
You also need to be an AKA member, which is also free. If you place at an event and you are not registered or not a member, we will reach out and get you signed up before standings publish. Points are earned on the pitch. We are not going to keep anyone out of the standings over paperwork.
How many tournaments do I have to play?
Two. That is the floor for the season champion title and it is deliberately low. If you can only get to your home regional and Natty’s, you are in the race.
How does scoring work?
Your two best placements count, plus 5 points for every additional event you attend. Every event you play improves your score.
Points go to individual players, not teams. Everyone on a roster earns the same placement points for the team’s finish, and those points follow you all season no matter who you play with next.
What if I play with a different team at every event?
Fine. Your points are yours. Chase it across four rosters or lock in with one team all year.
What happens if my team and I play every event together?
You finish level on points and you are named Season Co-Winners together, every player on the roster. That is by design, not a tiebreaker fallback. Kubb is played as a team and the title reflects that.
Why is Natty's worth more?
USNKC is the pinnacle of kubb in America and the season finale. It carries a premium at every tier. Winning Natty’s means more in the standings than winning a regional, and reaching the Cage carries a meaningful jump.
Why are all three regionals worth the same?
Each Regional Championship is equal because it is the recognized representative tournament of its zone, so its value reflects that status.
Do bad finishes hurt me?
No. Every finish earns points, down to 9th and below at a regional and T129 at Natty’s. Low results simply do not occupy one of your two scoring slots. Because the regional floor and the participation bonus are both worth 5, you are never worse off for having competed.
